Trauma Treatment

Many who come to Recovery Solutions for help with addiction may not identify past trauma as one of the reasons they are struggling with addiction. Current research is uncovering the link between trauma and addiction. By some estimates, over two-thirds of people seeking treatment for addiction report one or more traumatic life experience. In fact, among men diagnosed with PTSD, addiction is the most common co-occurring disorder, followed by depression. At Recovery Solutions our program is specifically designed to treat addiction as well as the trauma that may be fueling it.

You may be unsure if you have unresolved trauma. It is not uncommon for the memory of the traumatic experience to be buried. As a result, you may have been misdiagnosed with ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. Many of those who enter treatment at Recovery Solutions have experienced the symptoms of trauma without having connected them with a traumatic experience. This may be because they cannot remember the trauma or perhaps because they don’t believe the symptoms are connected to the trauma.

Common signs of unresolved trauma

  1. Addiction
  2. Depression
  3. Anxiety and panic attacks
  4. Insomnia
  5. Deep feelings of shame
  6. Avoiding people, places, or things related to the traumatic event
  7. Flashbacks and nightmares
  8. Hypervigilance (a constant feeling of being on guard)
  9. Suicidal thought or actions
  10. Uncontrollable anger
  11. Self-harm (cutting and mutilation)
  12. Unexplained or irrational fears of people, places, or things

If you or a loved one is dealing with any one or more of these signs and symptoms, please don’t try to manage these alone.
